Keeping You Up to Date
April 9, 2004
Hello there, YG moderator Sam here
just to update you on a few pending issues. First of all, thanks
to all of you who submitted a poem in the Spring Fling contest.
We'll be publishing the winning poem from each age group here in
the next week or so. Be sure to keep watching, because more
contests are on the way as summer draws nearer.
Secondly, happy Easter! I hope all
of you have a wonderful holiday. If you asked for an Egg Hunt,
you should have received them by now. We emailed the remainder
yesterday in Adobe PDF format. If you asked for one, but didn't
receive it, let us know at
yardgames@hotpop.com and accept our apologies in advance.
Next, we've begun updating the YG
Accounts section of the site to make it asp-based instead of htm-based.
This will eliminate the need for frames and make your
environment more secure, in addition to being easier and faster
to use. We originally intended to launch MyYardGames with this
functionality, but realized that it could be months if we worked
on it from the get-go before anyone would get to experience
MyYardGames. We'll keep you up to date on this project, but we
don't expect it to be completed for a while.
Finally, I mentioned more contests
are coming, and I thought, "What the heck, why not give a
preview to the great users of MyYardGames?" So here it is: Begin
gathering your favorite games, or additions or modifications to
the games already in our database. We're kicking summer off with
a bang...The Great American Game Addition is coming and we aim
to add LOTS of new games to our database in those few short
weeks.
Well, that's it for now. I hope
you all are enjoying the site. If you have any questions, you
know where to get them answered:
yardgames@hotpop.com.
Happy summer everyone!

newest Yard Games contest, the Spring Fling. Write us your poem
now to win a playground ball in time for summer. Details are

All Systems Good to Go
March 27, 2004
We have now finished fixing the
problems we detailed in the last several days, and the site
should be up and running at its optimum again. We also found
several other minor problems that have since been fixed. Thanks
for your support during this process.
Email Bug
March 25, 2004
Ahh! What is going on with this
site??? A bug has been brought to our attention in the design
scheme of MyYardGames Email. The designer of that area of the
site forgot to include function buttons for the email. Thus, the
user has no way to delete or move messages from folder to
folder, however the Reply feature does work. People not using
MyYardGames Accounts will not notice a problem, and people with
POP forwarding turned on will not notice a problem. To turn on
POP forwarding, select "Change Email Preferences" from the
MyStuff menu.
We apologize for the
inconveniences these bugs are causing, and hope to have them
repaired as soon as possible. If you find a bug, you can submit
it on our Beta Testers' page:
http://myyardgames.tripod.com/beta.htm
Website Difficulties
March 24, 2004
We've noticed some website
difficulties we would like to pass along to you. When in
Alphabetical View, and not logged into MyYardGames Accounts, the
Navigator disappears when you view a game. This is limited to
Alphabetical Game View only. If you are experiencing this
problem, please use your browser's back button to return to the
Navigator, or use Category View. We apologize for this
inconvenience and are working as hard as we can to troubleshoot
the problem.
Remember CyberSurfari?
March 12, 2004
Some of Yard Games' many users may
remember the CyberSurfari Internet treasure hunt program that
ended last June due to budget problems. A new Yard Games idea
would start a CyberSurfari-like service again by this fall, if
enough participants were interested in hunting, and enough of
CyberSurfari's former "CyberStations" were again interested in
hosting fun and interesting clues for this one-of-a-kind
Internet treasure hunt. To show your support and/or interest,
please sign the petition
here.

MyYardGames Preview
December 25, 2003
ou’re viewing a
real—not really working example of what MyYardGames will be like
when it’s done. Feel free to click around and notice where the
links and navigation will be, but be warned that most of our
links will take you to Tripod error pages, as our site is still
in the making and hasn’t yet been uploaded. We also invite you
to read on and discover some interesting new features still to
come in MyYardGames. The best, most state-of-the-art games
website for YOU will soon be MyYardGames. It is Version 2.0 of
the original Yard Games and incorporates all of its features,
including all of its games, contests, and activities, and then
adds much, much more to create a more personalized, less
ad-oriented Website anyone can enjoy. The first change you’ll
notice is our Web address. Yard Games is free and always will
be. We don’t charge a penny for MyYardGames membership, but
since we don’t charge for this, we must use free Website hosts.
150m has served Yard Games with fantastic service over the past
couple of years, and will continue to serve Yard Games, as
according to our hope, for many years to come, but MyYardGames
takes on a whole new approach and is hosted on Tripod. Known and
respected as a Web hosting company, Tripod will provide
MyYardGames a fantastic space to grow and mature as we attract
new users to our Website. Offering us with plenty of disk space
and even more bandwidth quota than 150m, Tripod also has only
several banner advertisements on the page, which much improves
upon 150m’s billions of pop-ups. When you arrive at our home
page, you’ll be likely next to notice the navigation. The whole
site has been redefined with you in mind. The Navigator goes
down the left of the page and across the top, just below our
logo. The two top links change to the most likely areas you’ll
want to visit as you browse our site. For example, at the Member
Login page, those links are Forgotten Password and Create
Account, making it super easy to find the information you want,
fast. And MyYardGames is personalized for YOU! If you are an
account holder, our system will eventually identify your
computer based on cookies and change to reflect that
identification with a welcome symbol just for you. Even the
general public can choose to view the games by category or
alphabet, but as a member you have many more choices, including
most popular, number of players or materials necessary, or even
the size of the area needed. The Functions portion of the
Navigator, in blue, will always stay on your page, but the rest
is dynamic and will change with you as you tunnel through our
Website. Once logged in the Accounts menu will disappear and the
Special Menu appears only on strategically placed pages, or
until you choose a view of the games. By the way—when you choose
a game view, all of the games will line up in that fashion under
the Functions section of the Navigator to the left. Even if
arranged alphabetically, by popularity, or by any other quota,
the games remain color coded in their appropriate category’s
color, helping you easily find just games that suit your
interest. With MyYardGames email, you’ll have first access to
the hottest new games, a heads-up on contests, and priority
assistance via. your Web-based account. Use MyYardGames
Favorites to bookmark the games you like best and have them
appear at the push of a button and the enter of your personal
password. On MyYardGames, we take page stats to a whole new
level by dynamically using them to update the Top Games links on
our homepage or the popularity parameter for registered members.
As users view different games, the Navigator may change before
your eyes. You can see we have quite a project setting all this
up! Thanks for your support as we finish it, and we would love
any ideas, comments, suggestions, or concerns. Something you
love from the original Yard Games? Make sure we include it!
Something you hate? Make sure it’s EXcluded! Your ideas make our
site even better, so please email us at yardgames@hotpop.com
with your ideas now! Thanks for continuing to be a loyal Yard
Games user. We appreciate your support. |
